Narendra Modi’s biopic
Election Commission on Wednesday stopped the release of Narendra Modi’s biopic. The decision was taken due to the Lok Sabha Elections. The ban has been imposed as the movie helps promote a political leader. Moreover, the biopic has the power to disturb the level playing field during the elections. Thus, it should not be placed in electronic media as yet.
The election commission also said that it is important that the power of media is not used in a way that affects the general conduct of elections. Supreme Court replying to a petition filed by a Congress leader said that a lot of court’s time has been wasted on this. It also said that the Election Commission needs to decide this if the film’s title. and release is an issue with the common code of conduct of the Lok Sabha Elections.
Firstly, the Election Commission was reluctant on not interfering in the matter and let CBFC’s decision be final. However, after supreme courts urge, election commission took a closer look. It considered releasing a biopic of a political identity during the elections as a promotional agenda. Thus, the movie has been banned from release for now until next orders.
The film names “PM Narendra Modi” is directed by Omung Kumar. Vivek Oberoi will be essaying the role of Narendra Modi in Narendra Modi’s biopic. The film talks about the life Narendra Modi from a tea seller to becoming the PM of the country. However, we will have to wait till the Lok Sabha elections get over to see Narendra Modi’s Biopic.
A leading daily published the Congress party views on Narendra Modi’s biopic. They call it a bogus film of a flop hero, a flop producer and is made on a flop person who has proved to be a zero. Election Commission also announced that a committee will be constituted to check if any material or cinematography of the film violates the ban. All complaints in this regard will also be managed by this committee.
