My dad owned a multiplex, so I’ve grown up watching all kinds of movies, actors, comedians—& fans going crazy over them! That’s when I knew, that I wanted to become an actor too. When I was in school, I wasn’t ‘smart’ & only kids who were, could take part in dramas. But once one of my teachers saw me imitating my P.T teacher—instead of shouting at me, he said I was good & gave me a role in the school play! The day I performed, everyone was in splits! But with the applause, also came the criticism. Everyone including my teachers & friends said that I was ‘healthy’ & wouldn’t make it in movies. That bogged me down & after my 12th, I let go of acting & chose to do engineering.
I remember at that time, Vicky Donor had released. I watched it & loved it — but I cried because I wanted to be part of something like that too. But I’d accepted my fate.
It was only in college, that things changed. I made friends who didn’t judge me, but motivated me to be ‘me’! And it was with them that I discovered ‘Vines’ too! I loved the concept of it! So my friends encouraged me to make my own. They helped me shoot the videos & even acted in them!
I made videos about everything relatable—about studying, not being the ‘best’ in class, & even family! I put them on Instagram—& in a year I had over 1 lakh followers! People were telling me how happy my videos made them & even tagged their friends! And nobody cared about how I looked—they loved me regardless! Within a year I had a million subscribers on YouTube & even got my first collaboration to promote a Bollywood movie! I’m a huge Marvel fan & I’d talk about it in my Vines—someone from Marvel saw that & invited me to chat with the whole team, in Singapore!
With every milestone I achieved, it felt surreal. Sometimes I still feel like I’m living a dream. I have a family of over 14 million followers now & I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in Bollywood! I’m so grateful for everything—for those who supported me & for those who didn’t—because it all lead me to where I am today. A part of my dream is yet to be fulfilled, but I know it’s only a matter of time before it happens—& I can’t wait for you to see me, on the big screen, soon!”
