Skincare is a vast industry and with a plethora of products coming every day, it is tough to decide which one to use. To make things easier, the best part is to go by the ingredients and not by the brand name! The ingredient I am going to talk about today is Retinol. What is retinol for skin aging and what are its other benefits? I will also be discussing how to use retinol and incorporate it into your daily skincare routine.
What is Retinol?
I am not going into the scientific details; retinol is made of Vitamin A. it is used for topical application and upon combining with the skin enzymes, it turns into retinoic acid. It is important to note here that it cannot be and should not be applied directly. Hence, retinol creams, serums, and lotions are there in the market.
Benefits for Your Skin
It is one of the magical ingredients in the skincare industry which can drastically change your skin for the better. However, you do need to be careful of its application. I will be discussing those details later in this blog! Retinol is a masterstroke that reverses the signs of aging. In our late twenties, we generally start to get fine lines, pigmentation, and dark spots and as we age, these signs appear more.
Now incorporating retinol into your daily skincare routine will help you get rid of all of this. You will experience smoother, well-textured, and even-toned skin. It does so by increasing the collagen production in your skin and accelerating skin renewal. Mentioned below are few benefits of topical application of Retinol
Smooth outs fine lines and wrinkles due to its minimizing effect.
Exfoliates the skin cells and gives brighter and smoother skin.
Help get rid of dark spots and pigmentation
Prevents breakouts and acne scars as well.
Gives plump skin that looks younger
Looking at all these benefits, who wouldn’t want to use retinol? Well, before you jump into buying the products, keep reading because there is more to it. [you may also like to read: Skincare Products that changed my skin]
Side Effects of Retinol
Yes! There are cons too. Too much of anything is bad and the same is the case with this magic ingredient. If used in the wrong way and in the wrong quantity, retinol can actually damage the skin. It can cause redness or can even peel the skin. Furthermore, the drying effect of retinol can also lead to flaky skin if used more often.
So your skin takes time before it understands the ingredient and makes peace with it. Hence, you need to start slow and let the magic work! I would always recommend you talk to your dermatologist before making it a part of your routine.
When to start using?
A question that comes up very often is what is the right age to start using retinol? Well, the dermatologists do say that you can start anytime after your turn 23-24. However, I personally feel you can give it a little time. I would say start once you turn 27 maybe! Having said that, understand that every person’s skin behaves differently. You might need the ingredient later than when others do. So, understand your skin and when you feel it’s time, I will share the list of best retinol products with you… [Also Read: Get Glowing Skin Naturally]
Retinol in Right Way
Coming straight to the point, start with the product that has a retinol composition of 0.025% which is generally the lowest there is. Once your skin gels well with it, you can consider increasing this percentage. Few tips to remember while using retinol products:
Start with a lesser concentration
Apply it every alternate day to start with and after a month or two you can start using it daily
Once you apply the product, wait for 10 minutes and layer it up with a good sunscreen
Avoid stepping out in sun after retinol application
The best way is to use it at night.
While you are using the retinol products, make sure you don’t ignore any signs that your skin is giving. If at all you experience something unusual, get in touch with your dermatologist.
In the next blog, super soon (I promise!), I will be sharing the best products in the market that gives good results and are safe to use. Till then, please follow me on Instagram for product reviews.
Itchy, stretched, dry, and dehydrated… these are just a few words that a person with dry skin in winter uses the most. Moreover, there is a constant need to apply layers of moisturizer and cover every part of the body so that it doesn’t get exposed to chilly winds. There are tons of things that we do in an effort to fix dry skin in winter. Worry not girl, I am here with all my research and so much good information for your topmost query, how to fix dry skin?
I have combination skin but my skin does become a lot drier during the winter months. It is drier to the extent that I need to patch on my moisturizer many times, use a mild soap or body wash, and a lot of other things that we will discuss today. Although it is not at all a serious condition, it sure is a matter of concern as no one wants the uneasiness that comes with dry, patchy stretched skin. However, if you get red dry patches on your face during the winter months, I would suggest you see a dermatologist once. Although this is extremely common in areas that experience heavy snowfall, red dry patches still need an expert opinion.
Alright! Let us get started on what causes dry skin, how to fix dry skin, and get soft, supple, and glowing skin that breathes! [You may like to read: Skincare Products that Changed my skin for good.]
What Causes Dry Skin?
It is usually the change in temperature! Low moisture in the air tends to suck out a lot of natural oils from your skin (mostly the exposed parts) thus making it dry. Especially in winters, the more exposure to hot baths, bonfires, heaters, and all can also reduce the moisture level in your skin. In the northern hemisphere, where winters are extreme, people might also experience red dry patches on their face.
Other than the climatic factors, it can be due to some medications. Mostly the anti-acne treatments cause dryness on the skin. Another reason can be the soap or body wash that you are using, if you already have dry to combination skin and you are using harsh soaps, it will aggravate the skin condition. More or less, the simple answer to what causes dry skin is lack of moisture.
How to Fix Dry Skin in Winter?
It is not at all difficult to manage the moisture level in your skin. All you need to do is to fix what you apply over it and what you eat. Few fixes that can prove a lot beneficial to fix even the red dry patches on face are as follows
Bath Products
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser to clean your body. Check the ingredient list carefully for any drying elements. Better still, search for milk soap or the one infused with glycerin. Do not overdo the cleansing process by lathering up, instead use only the required quantity to just remove all dirt. The body wash or soap brand that I recommend for dry skin is Dove.
Another way to ensure your bath products don’t take away all the moisture from your skin is to get an oil massage. Just use coconut oil and massage it all over your body before taking your shower. It will create a layer of moisture and will retain the moisture for a longer time.
Bath Time and Temperature
We all love the hot water shower during chilly winter days. However, this is another way of how to fix dry skin! Limit the bath time and take quick showers. Also, say no to hot showers and switch to the warmer ones. Adjust the temperature of water to what doesn’t feel cold but is also not hot enough to irritate your skin.
Once you are done with your warm water shower, pat dry your body with a towel. Furthermore, immediately after drying your body, put on the layer of moisturizer to lock in the moisture.
Skincare Products
Two things I cannot live without because of my dry skin in winters are moisturizer and lip balm. Choosing the right moisturizer is a task! Something that feels just right for the amount of dryness you are dealing with. If you get red dry patches on your face, you should only use the basic petroleum jellies. These are trusted, basic, and effective than any other moisturizer there is. Petroleum jellies are filled with mineral oils and create a protective layer of moisture.
For people looking for moisturizers, search a little more and look for oil-based creams. Make sure you see jojoba oil, Shea butter, cocoa butter, lanolin, Glycerin, Hyaluronic, etc in the composition list. These ingredients have rich moisturizing properties and allow your skin to survive during the harsh winters. Along with this, use a rich creamy lip balm that keeps your lips hydrated and doesn’t let them chap. If required use the moisturizing lipsticks for some time.
Avoid the Heat
Avoid cozying up by the side of your fireplace or direct room heaters. The air gets all dried up and so does your skin. If you can’t do without them, consider using a humidifier. A humidifier balances the dry effect that the heat causes in the air around you.
Dose up on Antioxidants
Sometimes I am actually surprised to see how antioxidants and omega-3s can really bless the skin. They are coming to your rescue to fix dry skin in winters as well. Antioxidants minimize the damage that dry air causes to your skin cells and also help build healthier skin cells. Foods rich in antioxidants that are your answer to how to fix dry skin are:
Carrots
Beans
Lentils
Berries
Foods rich in omega-3s that add a natural glow to your skin are:
Fish
Nuts
Seed oils
Make sure you make them a part of your routine in order to get healthy glowing skin. Furthermore, do not forget to hydrate! Winters mean a lot of warm drinks like coffees or teas. However, in order to get healthy skin, switch to herbal teas, soups, or just plain water. You can also read my Health and Fitness section for more information.
Hope you have found enough tips on how to fix dry skin in winters. The pr-tip today is, cover your body parts as much as you can if you step out. The key is always locking in the moisture. Moisture in your skin, moisture in the air around you, and even in your bath routine! In the next section of my blog, I will be sharing some homemade moisturizers that are a real blessing for dry skin in winters. Till then, follow me on Instagram!
Hola beautiful ladies! Hope you all are enjoying the cozy winters and eating all the delicacies of the season! But remember, you do have to maintain a healthy weight in order to be in the pinks of your health. So, here we are with the quick weight loss diet plan for winters that will help you keep your weight in check as you enjoy your favorite foods. As you all know, in all of my diet plans that I have shared before, I never appreciate starving. We will eat right to stay fit. Also, know that I am not a dietician or a doctor so whatever plans I am sharing with you are based on my own personal experiences. I am a 29-year-old woman with no health issues and no allergies or whatsoever. If you are coping with issues like thyroid or PCOS, please do consult with your doctor before you follow the diet plan for weight loss!
We will discuss the things that you must do and the things you must not in order to avoid gaining extra weight. I will also share the right time to eat! So stick with me girl I am gonna fill you up with so much knowledge.
Fruits
Winters are my favorite time because it brings along oranges! If you are following me on Instagram you know I am a huge fan of Vitamin C for the skin. What better when you get it through the food that you eat! Make sure to buy fresh oranges, the ones that are juicier, and make them a part of your daily routine. Also, I always prefer eating fruit rather than squeezing the juice out of it because of all the roughage! The fiber in the fruit skin is good for digestion.
Other options that are a plus in your quick weight loss diet plan are Guavas and berries. Although you get berries all year round the ones that harvest in winters are rich in nutrients. Berries can also help subside your sweet cravings. Moreover, you can have dates or jaggery in winters to satisfy your sugar rush!
Vegetables
Can the plate get any greener?! There are so many greens that you get in winters that the list is endless. So what are we going to do? We are going to add them all into our diet. I will be sharing the meal prep later where you can check how and when you can add what! Other than this, to ensure good health, pls make sure to grab fresh vegetables and this one goes for the fruits as well. Fresh seasonal vegetables are low in calories and rich in nutrients hence ensuring a healthy body and flawless skin. Winter veggies, especially spinach and fresh carrots are rich in antioxidants that will keep your immune system strong and will also aid in better digestion.
Time for Proteins
While many people complain that their body doesn’t adapt to a high protein diet in summers, such is not the case in the winter season. In winters as your appetite considerably increases, you are more likely to binge on junks. A protein-rich diet will help to keep you full for a longer period of time and will also prepare your body for the chilly winter. Opt for eggs, meat, and dairy products in the right quantity. However, if you are vegan, you can always have pulses, soybean, and chickpeas. Make yummy salads and have yourself a lovely treat!
Little Tweaks
You know diets can also be fun! I never understood the fuss about eating less. You just need to maintain a healthy weight (which our quick weight loss diet plan is helping you with) and that can be achieved with minor tweaks. [You may like to read: How to Increase metabolism rate] All you need to do is
Swap your sugary processed desserts with fresh fruits like apples or a date.
Make sure you have at least one cup of herbal tea (not necessarily green tea).
Start with adding less sugar to your tea or coffee and eventually reduce it to zero
Can’t go out in winters? Plan an indoor activity. Clean your house or do Zumba.
You need to stop making excuses as you are no one but are going to benefit from all this. Moving on, the part you are probably reading all this for! Quick weight loss diet plan with proper time to eat and what to eat options. You can change your options depending on the availability.
Morning
The first thing in the morning is to sip a glass of water. Or let’s just say you need to drink as much water as you can! Don’t overdo it as well. Then comes breakfast! Make it as exciting as you can, it is the first meal of the day, and trust me your whole day will depend on this. Time to eat: Anytime between 7 AM to 10 AM What to eat: Egg scramble with spinach or Oats pudding with berries Snack
It’s winter and you obviously want to eat something around 12ish. You need to be wise and not eat whatever you find in your kitchen. In this quick weight loss diet plan I personally prefer sipping a herbal tea and avoid eating at this time but still if you have to, here’s the option.
Time to eat: no later than 12:30 PM What to eat: a handful of mixed nuts (avoid cashews) Tip: A bowl of green soup is a highly beneficial meal at this time as it builds your appetite for lunch.
Lunch
Wholesome! This is exactly the word you need to follow while you plan your lunch meal. It should be full of variety and nutrient-rich. You need to add protein, carbs, and other essential nutrients to this meal. Time to eat: 1:30 PM to 3 PM What to eat: Stir fry vegetables with brown rice or Veggie hummus sandwich.
Evening Snack
Ok, so this is the time where most of the diets fail. You are far behind the dinner time yet hungry! There are plenty of snacks that you can eat at this time Keep in mind that you never have to overeat! Eat smaller portions. Time to eat: 4 PM to 5:30 PM What to eat: Carrot and hummus or Fruit bowl or Cheese Sandwich.
Dinner
Lighter the better… Keep your dinner light, simple, and extremely basic. Your body detoxifies while you sleep and this is the time you need to allow it to digest properly. Also, you are going to bed soon so there’s not much time to digest heavy meals. Time to Eat: 7 PM to 9 PM What to Eat: Soups! Experiment with green soups, vegetable soups, and tomato soup. They are more like healing meals that boost digestion and help be in desired weight. Apart from the meals I suggested, there’s more in the quick weight loss diet plan. Sharing a few pointers for better help.
Eat small portions, exactly half of how hungry you feel you are.
Do not eat in between the prescribed meals. Those are not hunger pangs, those are just cravings.
Eat fresh and natural products only.
Do not eat processed food. No junk at all!
Sleep at least 7 hours a day.
At last, there is no benefit of any quick weight loss diet plan if you are not mentally well. Have happy thoughts, meditate, and stay calm. We will discuss mental health in the next chunk of my blog. Till then, eat right and stay fit!

The cleansing foam by Avene soothes dry, sensitive skin almost immediately. I am a fan of the foaming face washes as they come in a pump dispensing exactly the right amount. The cushiony leather gives a squeaky clean face removing all the impurities while retaining the moisture in your face. It works perfectly well for people with normal to slightly dry skin. However, if you have extremely dry patchy skin, do not buy this one.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild
Clinique and Extra Mild are the two words that make it pretty clear that this one is the best face wash for dry skin. It is the 1st step of Clinique’s much-hyped cleansing skincare routine. Also, the best part about Clinique products is that they are all dermatologically tested hence they are safe to use. Its gentle lather does not flake the skin, removes all the dirt from it without disturbing the natural moisture of your skin. The idea is to prepare the skin for the steps that will follow. It prepares the surface for moisturization to get better absorbed and work wonders on your face.
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Coconut milk has a creamy texture, ads moisture and richness to your hair as well as skin. Also, coconut milk is not something that comes out as you crack open the coconut. It’s the liquid that you get while you blend the coconut skin and strain it. This liquid tastes extremely bad but it’s actually the opposite for your skin, hair, and overall health. Coconut milk is rich in Vitamin C, E, B1, B3, B5, and B6. It is also rich in iron, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.
Amazing Benefits of Coconut Milk for Hair Growth
Restores Dry and Damaged Hair
Coconut milk works as a scalp tonic. It treats dry, itchy scalp and helps get rid of irritation of any kind. For the proper moisturizing effect, massage coconut milk onto your hair and scalp for 5-10 minutes, and then wrap your hair up with a hot towel. It is a kind of home spa that you give to your hair and visible effects will be seen.

Winter Skincare Routine: Give that extra layer of care
As much as I love the cozy winters, I hate the harm it does to my skin! That’s why I am here to share my winter skincare routine with you guys. My otherwise combination skin turns extremely dry suddenly and I start putting the layers of moisturizer to avoid it from flaking. Now you know my struggle (*Sob *Sob) and I really want to know how many of you can relate with me?! Well, girls, you know what I always do and this time is no different. I am here with the tried and tested tips and products to save your ass this winter!
By the end of this blog, you will thank me for introducing you to some very reasonably priced winter skincare products. Also, for the best winter skin care routine that will help you like nothing else ever have! I mean it… Shall we start? I heard ya!!!
No Hot Bath
I know it’s too cold to be bathing with cold water, let’s just stick to lukewarm water. A hot water bath dries up your skin drastically and dehydrates it. If you wash your face with warm water, you will need tones to moisturizer and that eventually will give you breakouts or dull skin. Winter eczema is something you get if you take a hot bath or shower. So guys, lukewarm it is that too if you just can’t afford to use cold or normal room temperature water.
Choose your Products Wisely
Whether you use a shower gel or soap, make sure you have a different one for winters. In your winter skincare routine, the shower gel or your soap has to be the moisturizing one. Choose one with glycerin, coconut oil, or almond oil. Some oil base is what you need to make sure it doesn’t dry out your skin and retain some moisture. My personal favorites have always been: Dove if you are looking for an economical option. Bath and body works if you can spend a little more. [Read This: Skincare Products that Changed my Skin for Good]
Lotion Potion
I personally love this part about winter. In my winter skincare routine, lotions play a major part. Coming to the body lotions, I choose the ones that smell amazing, stay for long, and make my skin soft and supple. You also need to take care of a few things while buying a lotion, read the ingredients is the trick. Also, consider how harsh the winter is in your area. My favorite ingredient in body lotions is shea butter.
Face Serum
So in my winter skincare routine, the bedtime or the nighttime routine is very important. Choose good face serum and massage your face and hands thoroughly for 5-10 minutes. Let it stay and work as a night serum. It will ensure your skin is well nourished by the next morning. When you will wash your face I guarantee you will not see any sign of dryness or flaky skin at all. The face oil that I am using these days is Daughter Earth Eternal Youth Rejuvenating Serum. I absolutely adore this product and it has done wonders for my skin. Not only the nourishment, but it also cleared the dark spots and gave visibly clear skin.
Protect Your Skin
If you live in areas where winters are very harsh, you need to be super careful. Cover your body as much as you can. Wear gloves, scarves, mufflers, caps, and try to create a barrier between your skin and the chilly wind that’s blowing around. However, for areas where enjoying the afternoon sun becomes a ritual in winter, remember, sunscreen is your best friend. Apply a layer always when you step out because even the winter sun tans the skin. This definitely comes under the winter skincare routine to not let the weather reach your skin.
Simple Tricks to follow in your winter skincare routine
Use mustard oil and massage your naval with just one drop of it. It will help keep your lips soft. [You may also like to read: Make your own Lip Balm]
Use fresh cream to massage your face before you wash your face at night. It will help retain the moisture in your skin and also have skin brightening properties.
Consume Desi Ghee, at least 2 tablespoons in your day. Ghee help keep your skin and hair better.
Drink enough water. There is a scenario that in winters we drink comparatively less amount of water. This is one of the major reasons why our skin cracks or dries up. Make sure you are drinking at least 3-4 liters of water.
Stick to one winter skincare routine and follow it everyday! Like I always say, “Love your skin and it will love you back”. For more blogs on skincare, click here. Follow me on Instagram for product reviews. See you in the next one!
